Screwed a buddy over and was not honest about times. Went to look at his engine and his block and heads were rusting because they never coated or covered after magnafluxing and boiling the block and heads. Was told 8-12 week and they had it for 4 1/2 months and didn’t even do half of what they said they would do. I understand being busy but if you’re that busy you need to be honest and transparent with your clients. Was going to bring my engine there but not after he went through this.

I dropped my 454 big block motor off to them after talking to them on the phone and them saying it would only take 8 to 12 weeks, which is reasonable. 5 months later they had only magnuflux and boiled the block and heads. I was under the impression it would only take 8 to 12 weeks, mind you. Since I did not have the time to wait any longer I went and picked up my motor and paid for the services they had done up to that point. They had completely let the inside and outside of the block and heads rust over, they did not apply any protectant. The people are nice and I understand they are busy but they need to be completely open about wait times, why take on more when you are drowning in engines. And why make your customers suffer. I’m sure people have great experiences here but I DID NOT!! It would have taken a minimum of a year and a half to two years at the rate they were going.

Brought a Zetec head there to get shaved to bump up compression. Automotive Machine had my head ready to go very quickly, and even showed me an area of the head that would need some contouring to maintain oil flow to the cams. I've never had a machine shop identify an issue like that before.

I have used Automotive machine before for work on my 5.4l block and heads without issues, however that’s not the case this time. I dropped off a block and head for a 4.2l trailblazer. I’m now at week 7 with barely any work done. In fact I was told they’re fitting it in when they can, which tells me they’re prioritizing others in front of me. Especially when I’ve been told the past 3 weeks that they’re getting to it next week. 3 weeks later they only removed broken head bolts and disassembled the head without inspecting it. Honesty is not their policy. This has caused me friction with my customer as I recommended them. I will never use Calvin or his team again! Use the Kinsey Machine Shop in Galesburg instead and avoid the grief.

I've been to quite a few machine shops in my day. These guys were lightning fast and very knowledgeable. Would highly recommend for your engine machining needs. Fastest turn-around I've ever had at a machine shop!
